Rockies fall to Giants before heading home
The Colorado Rockies (38-46, 3rd NL West) were hoping to capitalize on their 7-3 win Tuesday night but the San Francisco Giants’ (54-33, 1st NL West) Brandon Belt had other plans, and he implemented them early, popping out an RBI triple in the bottom of the first inning. This allowed the SP Johnny Cueto to come out and calmly work his magic, shutting out the Rockies in nine innings.
“He’s one of the best pitchers in the game,” said Jorge De La Rosa, who lost both of his starts during the Rockies’ 1-5 road trip despite allowing just five runs in 14 innings. “I just had to keep the game close and wait until the guys start swinging the bats.”
The Rockies return home to face the Philadelphia Phillies in a four game series kicking off at 7:40 tonight. Chad Bettis (6-6, 5.85 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for the Rockies and will match up against Adam Morgan (1-6, 6.31 ERA). Bettis has gone 4-1 in his last five starts. Morgan is starting in place of Aaron Nola.
