Rockies shutout Giants

Bettis tosses first complete game for Rockies

Colorado Rockies pitcher Chad Bettis tossed the first two hit shutout for the team since June 2009, striking out seven batters (one short of his career high) with no walks via 103 pitches in a 6-0 win over the San Francisco Giants in his first complete career game.

“I think in the third or fourth is when I had a really good feel for rockies 3my curveball and changeup,” Bettis said when asked when he realized he was in a groove. “I was just trying to do everything I could to give us a win.”

Carlos Gonzalez blasted a grand slam in the 3rd against Matt Moore, the Rockies third in this home stand.  The rest of the scores also came in the third.

“The boys looked a little flat,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “We got to find a way to come out of this thing. We couldn’t generate anything. Their guy pitched great, I’ll give him that. But at the same time, we’ve been in this for a little while, and it’s time for us to wake up here.”

Game two of the three game stand kicks off tonight at 7:40 at Coors Field.  Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to grab yours today and help cheer on your Colorado Rockies to victory!

Rockies take game 1 from Braves

The Atlanta Braves (33-63, 5th NL East) came north to take on the Colorado Rockies (44-51, 3rd NL West) looking for a little better luck than they had against the Cincinnati Reds but things have not worked out that way yet.

Led by Carlos Gonzalez’s three run home run off of starter Mike Foltynewicz in the sixth inning, the Rockies got four more runs between the seventh and eight innings to seal the Braves’ fate.

“We’ve been facing some pretty good arms, but not being able to score runs was frustrating,” Gonzalez said. “When I hit that home run, I kind of looked angry. But I was pumped up, because I knew (Chad) Bettis was doing a tremendous job. Not scoring runs, I took it personally — he was doing his thing, we’ve got to be able to do our things.”

“You can’t fall behind one of the best fastball hitters in the game, and you especially can’t pitch around him at that time because the bases would be loaded,” Foltynewicz said. “You’ve just got to tip your cap. He was waiting for the inside fastball and he turned on it.”

The Braves will look to draw even tonight in game two of four but will have to face SP Jon Gray (5-4, 4.33 ERA) who tossed seven scoreless innings against 29 batters in the last meeting against them.  Gray will go up against Julio Teheran (3-8, 2.79 ERA) who also pitched seven scoreless innings in his last outing.

Arenado placed on the DL

With Carlos Gonzalez already on the shelf, the Rockies got some more bad news as Nolan Arenado was placed on the 15-day disabled list after breaking his left middle finger sliding into second base.

“I kind of feel like I’m letting these guys down a little bit,” Arenado said. “That hurts a little bit.”

But Manager Walt Weiss already knew that Gonzalez was being hard on himself so he got in contact with him.

“I kind of feel like I’m letting these guys down a little bit,” Arenado said. “That hurts a little bit.”

The Rockies are on the road and in the middle of a three game series against the Philadelphia Phillies.  Great seats and cheap tickets are still available!
